The abrasive waterjet cutting process can easily generate almost any two-dimensional shape imaginable, quickly and very accurately in materials up to 1" (25 mm) thick with a tolerance of ±0.005" (±0.1 mm). However, materials over 1” thick begin to minutely degrade in accuracy. Advanced software compensates for the inherent variation in the process, resulting in parts that are within acceptable tolerances.

The advantages of waterjet cutting are speed, flexibility and economy. Combined with CAD/CAM technology, not only can single prototype parts be quickly generated, customers can easily introduce revisions to produce variants of the prototype without incurring large costs. And because setup time is minimal, manufacturing single piece and custom parts is very cost-effective. Minimal setup and machining cycle time results in faster turnaround time. It is not uncommon for Paragon to deliver parts within 24 hours after the initial order.

We can easily generate parts from virtually any material from glass to granite with very precise tolerances. Since it is a low temp process, we can generate parts without hardening or warping the material. It also allows very accurate cutting of temperature sensitive materials such as plastics, fiberglass, laminates, gaskets, wood, rubber and composites without any heat induced stresses and distortions.

Paragon can handle work sizes up to 55” x 100” and up to 2” thick with a repeatable accuracy of ±0.005" (0.051 mm). Materials up to 6” thick can be generated with less accuracy. However these can be architectural or decorative parts where tolerances are not as stringent. Instead of using flame cutting, very thick metal parts can also be rough cut and final-finished on a conventional machine. Waterjet cutting provides a smooth edge finish therefore requiring very little tooling and post-machining.

Very thin metal parts can be cut accurately without causing heat distortion or edge hardening.

The waterjet process allows machining of very intricate patterns at a higher speed and at less cost than conventional machining.

Architectural Decor, Signs & Paint Stencils,

Paint stencils can be
made from flexible plastic for
painting on contoured surfaces or from metal for longer durability.

The desirability of waterjet cutting is it's flexibility and economy. Aside from making industrial parts, waterjet technology is a very quick and efficient way of creating very complex single parts or small batch runs for letters, architectural decor, signs and paint stencils. These may be made from virtually any material including wood, plastic and metal. All that is needed is a CAD file of the design to be generated. If you don't have a CAD file, Paragon may be able to convert your file into a CAD file, please call us for more information.
